Pakistan is an agrarian economy blessed with four seasons and topographies suitable for most of the crops, orchards and forestry. Agriculture contributes around 20% in the GDP and provides raw material to large scale manufacturers besides key source of income for transportation, wholesale & retail, insurance and banking sectors. Around 70% of country’s population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood.

However, agriculture has largely remained under performed with far less per acre yields compared with regional and international standards. The sector suffers compound problems of lack of physical assets, financial support and human resource development. The problems have aggravated by farmers inability to adopt technological advancements besides rapid climate change and non-conducive policy constraints including devolution of agriculture and allied issues. As such, the area and yields are stagnant since more than a decade.
