The Koran is the holy scripture of Islam which, according to the beliefs of Muslims, contains the literal revelation of God (Arabic Allah) to the Prophet Mohammed. It is written in a special rhyming prose called Sajj in Arabic. The Koran consists of 114 suras, which in turn consist of a different number of verses (آيات / āyāt). The orthographically standardized edition of the Cairo Azhar University from 1924 is decisive for all modern editions.
