Ashapurna Devi was born on 8 January 1909 (Bengali 24 Paush, 1315) on Friday morning at Matulalai in North Kolkata. Father's name Harendranath Gupta and mother Saralasundari Devi. Harendranath Gupta was a commercial artist; He also drew pictures in the popular Bengali magazines of that era. In contrast to his royal devotion and conservatism stood mother Saralasundari Devi.
