A map gives an overview of many areas of the national natural heritage. This is largely to former military buildings, which have a particularly high biodiversity because of their history. Many rare and worth protecting animal and plant species found there their habitat. To permanently secure these areas with large forests, open land and wetlands for conservation, they are transferred from central government to the states, conservation organizations and the German Federal Environmental Foundation that they maintain to exacting nature conservation guidelines and develop.
