Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi is a well-known scholarly personality of the subcontinent. He was primarily a Hanafi Muslim. The era in which he was born was a period of taqlidism and Hanafi jurisprudence was patronized by the government. Jurisprudents like Shah Waliullah were brought up in this school of thought. But when he went to Makkah for Hajj, he learned Hadith from the Arab sheikhs, from which a movement arose in his nature against the status quo of imitation. So, on his return from the
