Large African and smaller Asian elephants alike use their unique trunks to make trumpeting and rumbling sounds. Rumbles are typically used to communicate with fellow herd members, voicing playfulness or helping the herd decide which direction to move. Louder and more aggressive trumpeting noises are used as a warning to pred
