About App
This is the story of Goddess Sheetala:
Jwarasura, the demon of fever, was spreading fever in the world and all kids including infant Ganesh were affected by it. Goddess Parvati becomes angry and transforms into Goddess Mahakali to destroy Jwarasura and protect the people. But Jwarasura receives a boon from Lord Brahma that only kids can enter his abode. Lord Shiva transforms into Batuk Bhairava and lures Jwarasura out of the cave. Meanwhile Goddess Parvati transforms into Goddess Sheetala and cures the children suffering from fever. Jwarasura realises his mistake and turns into a donkey on which Goddess Sheetala travels around the world protecting people from diseases.
Sheetala Maa is seen carrying a broom and a pot. She is mainly worshipped in the months of March, April, July, and August. There are many folk stories of how she cures and protects her devotees. She is served cold and stale food as offerings. Sheetala Mata Aarti, Sheetala Mata Chalisa, Sheetala Mata Mantra, and Sheetalashtakam are sung by devotees to appease her. There is a famous temple in Gurgaon dedicated to Goddess Sheetala.
