Ulan Bator (Улааанбаатар), also Ulan Bator or simply just UB, is the capital of Mongolia. With a population of around 1.2 million, it is also the largest city in Mongolia. Ulaanbaatar is located in the Tuul River Valley, bordering the Bogd Khan Uul National Park. Initially a Buddhist nomadic center, it became a permanent settlement in the 18th century.
