Rádio Por Um Mundo Melhor was founded by Bishop Dom Hermínio Malzone Hugo in 1960, 1st bishop of the Diocese of Governador Valadares, to be the official broadcaster of the Diocese, being its first partner Administrator, together with Monsignor Francisco Batista dos Santos and Father David de Alcantara Miranda.

On September 14, 1978, Fundação João XXIII gained a new radio station with the frequency 97.7 MHZ – Rádio Mundo Melhor FM, following the same purposes with different segments, aimed more at young people.
