Sree Guruvayurappan Temple (Narayan Mandir), Calcutta was built in the year 1995. The Pratishta (Consecration) of Deities was performed at the auspicious Brahma Muhurtham on 31st January 1995 (Thiruvonam star, 17th Makaram 1770) in the early hours, by Thantries of Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, Kerala, namely (Late) Chennas Divakaran Namboodiripad along with his son Thantri Acharya Ratna Dr. P.C. Dinesan Namboodiripad, who is the present Thantri of this temple, in presence of Temple Architect Brahmasree Kanippayur Krishnan Nambodiripad.

Late Namacharyyan Br. Sree Anjam Madhavan Namboodiri, through his soul-stirring Sapthaha Yagnams inspired the devotees and the then the Managing Council Members to construct Sree Guruvayurappan Temple at Calcutta and whose untiring efforts and devotion to the Lord culminated in the completion of this Temple in 1995.

H.H. Kanchi Kamakoti Sri. Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal laid the Foundation Stone on 17th January 1987.

Main Deity is Lord Sree Guruvayurappan (Krishna), and the other Deities (Upadevatas) are Lord Ganapathy (Ganesh), Lord Ayyappa (Saastha), Goddess Bhagawathi (Durga) and Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya). The Upadevatas were installed exactly at the same location as that of Sree Guruvayurappan Temple, Guruvayur. The daily Pujas/Rituals are also conducted by the Temple Staff deputed from Kerala, strictly as per the tantric tenets laid down by the Thantri (Chief Priest) whereby maintaining the maximum sanctity and enhancing the divinity of the Temple.

The Temple completed its renovation and expansion in January 2016, and on the occasion of 21st Pratishta and Ashtabandha Sahasra Kalasa Mahakumbhabhishekam, the Majestic Gopuram at East Nada was inaugurated on 8th February 2016. Now this temple stands out as an exact replica of any other Kerala Temple, the architectural style, and the temple structure is indeed a magnificent and everlasting contribution to the great City of Kolkata, the Cultural Capital of India, besides richly enhancing the divinity of the Temple.

The Temple is located in South Calcutta at 3/1/1A, Nakuleswar Bhattacharjee Lane, Calcutta-700 026, having the entrance from East and West sides of Nakuleswar Bhattacharjee Lane. This Temple is very near to famous KALI TEMPLE of Kalight and will take only 3 minutes to walk from Kalighat Tram Depot towards East. The temple can also be approached from Manoharpukur Road as well as from Lake Market and Rash Behari Avenue. A large number of devotees from everywhere visit the temple every day to offer their Prayers and seeking Blessings of LORD SREE GURUVAYURAPPAN.
